Suicide Risk Awareness & Support Training
Who is this training for?
This training is for anyone who supports people – whether in a professional or voluntary role – who may experience distress or thoughts of suicide. It is suitable for frontline staff, volunteers, managers, and wider support networks. You don’t need any clinical background, just a willingness to listen, support, and engage in open conversations.
What to expect
This training introduces our Suicide Risk Conversation Toolkit, which is a practical, easy-to-use framework designed to help you feel confident having supportive conversations about suicide.
Co-developed with staff, volunteers, and people with lived experience, the toolkit promotes a compassionate, open approach that helps reduce stigma and encourages honest dialogue.
You will learn how to:
- Use clear, sensitive questions to explore suicidal thoughts and feelings
- Apply active listening skills to build trust and safety
- Recognise warning signs, risk factors, and protective factors
- Understand each person’s experience from their unique and cultural perspective
- Explore current challenges alongside strengths, resilience, and support networks
- Use a simple step-by-step guide to help you respond appropriately and safely
The training focuses on creating meaningful conversations that prioritise understanding, connection, and shared decision-making.
