Meditation Bells

Mindfulness mentoring

  • Interested in one of our mindfulness courses but don’t like learning in a group setting?
  • Used a meditation app but have questions that the app isn’t answering?
  • Maybe you’ve done a course and would like to go deeper, or just get back on track with your practice.

Our one-to-one Mindfulness Mentoring sessions could be for you.  Sessions will be with our experienced and trained mindfulness facilitator. To get the most from these sessions, you’ll need to be prepared to fit in a regular meditation practice (at least three times a week) into your routine.

Sessions can be in person at our city centre venue or online via Teams or Zoom.

What is mindfulness, and how can it help me?

Mindfulness simply means paying attention to our present moment (without judging it). As human beings, we’re not actually that great at being present. Instead, our minds like to time travel back and forward in time, daydream, worry or plan. This can make our anxiety worse, contribute to low mood, and prevent us from getting the most out of life.

Mindfulness meditation is a practice that helps train our busy minds to come back to our present moment. When we practice mindfulness meditation, it becomes easier to be present in our daily life, helping us worry less, manage stress better, and even cope better with pain. We may become more patient, develop a different relationship with our thoughts, and might even understand our emotions a bit better too. With regular practice our relationships might improve, we may make wiser choices, feel more resourced for life’s challenges, and more able to enjoy the good stuff in life.

What happens in a mindfulness one-to-one session
It depends what you want to get from the session. Unlike a group course, we can personalise the sessions to your needs. Usually, we’ll start with a brief arriving meditation, and then the rest of the session will be a discussion guided by your aims. If we’re working through an 8 week course, or from a book, we’ll discuss the teachings for the week, and how they apply to your own life and circumstances.

Whether you’re working through a course, a book, or already have your own meditation practice, you’ll be expected to make time in between the sessions for meditation practice. We have some recorded meditations for you to use if you need guidance, particularly if you’re working through our own 8 week course. We can also coach you around finding motivation for practice, and help you work through what obstacles there are preventing you from finding time to practice regularly. If you’re working your way through one of our courses, we will have some handouts for you to read each week.

Mindfulness isn’t suitable for everyone, nor at all times of life. Read more about this to see if now is the right time for you. These sessions are for over 18s only.

Session costs

Sessions cost £36 (£30 plus VAT) and are 50 minutes long. We won’t charge you until we’ve arranged your first session.  Fill out our online form and we’ll get back to you to arrange a conversation with you.

Who will I see?

Ruth Rosselson, our resilience co-ordinator, will be running these sessions.  She is accredited by BAMBA (British Association for Mindfulness Based Approaches) and has been running Manchester Mind’s mindfulness programme for the past 9 years. She created our mindfulness and relaxation for menopause course, our 8 week mindfulness for stress course and a 6 week introduction to mindfulness course. She has been meditating since 2005 after coming to mindfulness to help her live with the chronic pain and unpredictability of rheumatoid arthritis.

What happens next

Please fill out our mindfulness enquiry form – let us know what you’d like from the sessions, and whether you’d prefer face-to-face or online sessions. Ruth will then get in touch to arrange a phone call to chat about your aims, and help you decide whether you’d like to go ahead. Once we’ve agreed on the session time and location, we’ll send you a link to pay for your session. We’ll also agree together on the number of sessions you might like. Unless you’d like a one-off session, we suggest a minimum of 5 sessions – but it could be more if you’re working through an 8 week programme. If you’re wanting to work through a course, we suggest you choose from one of our existing 8 week courses (mindfulness for stress, or mindfulness and relaxation for menopause), or the book “Finding Peace in a Frantic World” by Mark Williams and Danny Penman.
