Support for Mortgage Interest

If your income falls and you have a mortgage it is important to seek advice as soon as possible. You may be able to get support from your mortgage provider or from the government if you are claiming Universal Credit.

If your income falls and you have a mortgage it is important to seek advice as soon as possible. You may be able to negotiate smaller mortgage payments or be eligible for other support via your mortgage provider.

If you have claimed Universal Credit for 9 months, you may also be able to request a loan to pay the interest on your mortgage. In this case, as long as you have received Universal Credit for the correct time, the government will loan you money to pay your interest. Interest will be applied to the loan you are given. It may not cover the full interest of your actual mortgage.

Application

If you get Universal Credit, you will need to speak to them either through your journal or by calling 0800 328 5644 to make a request for this support.
