Discretionary Housing Payments

Discretionary Housing Payments may be available to you if you claim housing benefit or the housing element of Universal Credit. If you receive these benefits but you cannot cover your full rent, you can apply for a discretionary housing payment.

Discretionary Housing Payments may be available to you if you claim housing benefit or the housing element of Universal Credit. If you receive these benefits but you cannot cover your full rent, you can apply for a discretionary housing payment. In this case, the council will consider giving you extra money to help cover your full rent.

This payment is aimed at people who are affected by the bedroom tax or the local housing allowance, and who cannot cover their full rent.
