Our Board of Trustees

Our Trustees help guide Manchester Mind so we can continue to provide trusted, accessible mental health support for people across Manchester.

Meet the Team

Our trustee’s make up our board and are responsible for the charity’s governance and strategic direction, bringing clarity of thought to our priorities, decisions and use of resources. Their role is to help Manchester Mind stay focused on its purpose, face risks early, and make decisions that support the people and communities we serve.

Trustees work closely with the Chief Executive and leadership team to:

  • set our strategic priorities
  • scrutinise performance, risk and impact
  • support and challenge the executive team
  • protect the charity’s independence, values and long-term sustainability

As part of the wider Mind network, Manchester Mind operates independently while contributing to a national movement to improve mental health support across communities.

Our board

Our Board brings together people with professional expertise, lived experience and a deep connection to Manchester. We bring clarity of thought to the decisions we make and create no hiding space for risk, so Manchester Mind can stay resilient, use its resources well, and keep focused on what matters most: making it easier for people across our city to ask for help.

We aim to reflect the diversity of the people we serve, with at least half of our trustees bringing direct experience of mental health.

Trustees are appointed for three-year terms, with the option to serve up to three terms. The Board is supported by four committees covering Strategy and Performance; Finance, Risk and Audit; People and Culture; and Operations and Quality.

This structure helps trustees improve access to support, strengthen the organisation, and help Manchester Mind make a lasting difference in people’s lives.

Our committees

Our Board is supported by four committees that provide focused oversight across key areas of Manchester Mind’s work. They help trustees look deeper, test the evidence, and bring clarity of thought to the decisions the Board makes.

Each committee works closely with the Chief Executive and leadership team. Management owns the facts, committees test the evidence and form a judgement, and the Board remains responsible for final decisions.

All trustees contribute to the Board and at least one committee.

The structure below shows the four committees and their areas of oversight.

Strategy and Performance Committee

Focuses on Manchester Mind’s long-term direction, strategic priorities and impact.

It helps the Board understand whether we are delivering the right outcomes, responding to changing need, and staying focused on our purpose: making it easier for people across Manchester to ask for help.

Finance, Risk and Audit Committee

Oversees financial performance, risk, audit and internal controls.

It helps ensure Manchester Mind remains financially resilient, uses resources well, and creates no hiding space for risk across the organisation.

People and Culture Committee

Oversees leadership, culture, safeguarding, workforce wellbeing and organisational capability.

It helps ensure Manchester Mind is well led, supports its staff and volunteers, and has the right culture and capacity to deliver its work.

Operations and Quality Committee

Oversees service delivery, quality, safety and operational performance.

It helps ensure Manchester Mind’s services are effective, accessible and focused on outcomes for the people and communities we serve.
