This engaging two-part Active Listening workshop is designed to build confidence and capability in having meaningful, supportive conversations, particularly within mental health and wellbeing contexts.
In Part 1, you will explore the importance of listening as a core communication skill and its impact on relationships and effective support. The session introduces the principles of active listening, including empathy, rapport building, and the Listening Tree framework. You will learn how to use open questions, reflection, paraphrasing and non-verbal communication to create safe, trusting spaces where people feel heard and understood.
Part 2 focuses on putting these skills into practice. Through guided activities, role play and group discussions, you will strengthen your ability to respond empathetically, manage challenging conversations, and reflect on your listening style. The session also covers supporting self and others, setting healthy boundaries, understanding emotional experiences, and responding appropriately when people share their distress.
By the end of the workshop, you will feel more confident in using active listening to support others while maintaining your own wellbeing.
