Peer Support: Visit to Manchester Mind Allotment
It’s like a different plot compared to when we visited earlier in the year. They’ve made it accessible and welcoming as well as sustainable and plentiful with produce. It is exciting to think about the potential it now has as a therapeutic space thanks to their hard work.
Last week we ran our first Peer Support event at the Manchester Mind Allotment. Volunteers and staff gathered to meet together, to chat, to share vegetarian food prepared in our community café and to create herb planters to take home. We were also treated to bags of healthy, organic produce to take away.
The transformation in the allotment over the past six months really is incredible. A huge thank you to Phil and the allotment volunteers who really have gone above and beyond to bring the allotment to life. In a short space of time we have a new patio, new greenhouse and large yields of produce that are supporting the café. We are delighted that Phil will be remaining in post for a further 6 months and we can’t wait to see what he has planned next!
I left work feeling very pleased and grateful I have such a wonderful job. To watch people benefit from the healing wonder of nature and the outdoors really is something close to my heart as that’s how I care for myself and ensure my own wellbeing is attended to.
