Will Manchester Mind cover my expenses?

Yes. Please keep hold of receipts for any public transport that you use to travel to and from your volunteer role with us and we will reimburse you.
If you are a mentor, we will cover reasonable expenses required for mentoring session that will help mentees work towards their goal. This will require prior agreement with your volunteer supervisor.

I am not experienced, can I volunteer with you?

For the majority of roles available, you don’t need to have any experience, specialist skills or qualifications. We encourage you to draw on your experience, but we look for an ability to demonstrate our values above all. The qualities we look for in our volunteers are:

  • Reliability
  • Ability to relate to and empathise with other young people
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, especially listening skills
  • Ability to be non-judgemental, self-aware, patient, flexible and supportive
  • An ability to demonstrate our core values: openness; belonging; strength; collaboration
  • An ability to take your own initiative

I have an additional need, can I volunteer with you?

Yes. We welcome you to our service and will make reasonable adjustments as required. Please call 0161 221 3054 and select option 4 on the menu to chat about any of this. You can also read our Equality, Diversity and Anti-Discriminatory Practice Policy here

I have received counselling, advice and/or have been a mentee at Manchester Mind’s Children and Young People’s Service, can I still volunteer with you?

Yes. If you are currently meeting with a counsellor, advice worker or mentor then mention your interest in volunteering to them and they can help you take the next steps. Alternatively, you can go straight ahead and apply for a role by checking out the roles available, and applying here. If you would like to have an informal chat about volunteering with us, call 0161 221 3054 and select option 4 on the menu.

How do I apply to be a volunteer?

Take a look at our role descriptions. Apply for a role by completing our short application form. If we are recruiting for the role at the time you apply, you will be invited in for an informal chat.

When will I hear from you?

We get lots of enquiries about volunteering. We really appreciate your offer of support and are grateful for the time you take to complete an application form. However, there can sometimes be a delay in getting back to you. If you would like to follow up your application please call 0161 221 3054 and select option 4 on the menu.

Why the wait?

It is important that we support and train all of our volunteers. Because of this, there are a limited number of volunteer roles available at any one time. Keep an eye out on our social media channels to stay up to date with the roles we are recruiting for.

Manchester Mind is still here for anyone who is struggling with their mental health, but now we need your support…

We have recently launched our Covid19 emergency food response appeal.

We are hoping to raise £10,000 so we can buy staple ingredients and equipment to provide over 1600 meals per week to those experiencing severe food poverty.

Every donation will help make a real difference to the most vulnerable people in Manchester.

Find out how you can get involved.
